Acupuncture is a 6000 year old approach to healing and well being which has been more recently adopted by Western medicine. Research has shown that acupuncture influences the nervous system to assist the body's natural healing and pain relieving mechanisms through neuro chemical pathways.
Generally Western Acupuncture is performed using needles inserted into the appropriate acupuncture or trigger points. There are other associated methods which do not require needles, including Acupressure or Tens.
At Forrest Hill Physiotherapy our registered physiotherapy acupuncturists, who all have advanced training in acupuncture, may provide this service to assist your rehabilitation needs.

Your physiotherapists will advise and explain the acupuncture procedure fully. Most musculo-skeletal problems, including trauma, backache, osteo-arthritis, sports injuries and many other conditions can be helped by acupuncture.
The acupuncture needle is extremely fine and is often hardly felt when inserted. There may be a mild aching around the needle when it is stimulated.
Physiotherapists practise the highest standards of medical hygiene using only sterile, disposable needles for acupuncture.
Acupuncture is safe and natural but it is important you tell your physiotherapist about any medical conditions including haemophillia, hepatitis, HIV status or if you are pregnant.
